We know that times are hard for people who work hard up and down the country right now, with household budgets being stretched and squeezed. We are having to clear up the mess left by Labour, and whilst we’ve cleared a quarter of the deficit left by Labour in our first two years in office, we are also doing everything we can to help families with the cost of living.
In April we are cutting taxes for over 24 million hardworking people by raising the personal allowance by the highest ever amount – since the election these people will have had their tax bill cut by £593. People working full time on the minimum wage, will have seen their income tax bill cut in half.
We’ve also cancelled Labour’s fuel duty increases, which means duty has been frozen for 31 months under this Government. This has kept fuel 10p cheaper than it would have been under Labour.
The credibility of the Government’s plan to reduce the deficit and live within its means is keeping mortgage rates low, helping families and businesses across the country. Our council tax freeze has cut council tax in real terms over the last two years. Councils should sign up to the further freeze offer for next year too, to give practical help to hardworking families and pensioners with the cost of living.
