Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson today presented a petition to the Prime Minister at No 10 Downing Street on behalf of residents from Werrington and Peakirk.
Residents of North Werrington and Peakirk are concerned following the upgrade of the nearby freight line and the estimated increase in freight traffic by up to 23,360 additional trains per year.
Mr Jackson’s constituents are concerned about noise, vibration and pollution caused by the increased traffic and also the possible devaluation of their properties.
Stewart Jackson said:
“I have met with a number of constituents who are concerned that Network Rail are not doing enough to mitigate the problems caused by increased traffic on the freight line.”
“I am arranging a further public meeting in the New Year and inviting Network Rail and officials from Peterborough City Council to attend and I am happy to be able to present a petition on their behalf and do hope the Government is able to provide a formal response.”
“In the meantime, I will lobby Ministers so that they have a full understanding of local concerns.”
