Paul Bristow, Former MP for Peterborough and the newly elected Conservative Mayoral Candidate for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
The son of a local NHS nurse and an army officer, Paul Bristow was raised in Whittlesey and now lives locally in a village on the outskirts of Peterborough.
Paul served as the Member of Parliament for Peterborough between December 2019 up until the recent General Election in July 2024. Loosing his seat after a well fought campaign by only 118 votes.
Throughout his time in Parliament, Paul was known for his active involvement in health and social care issues. He was a member of the Health and Social Care Committee and frequently submitted questions to ministers on health-related matters.
In addition, Paul was appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Nadine Dorries, in February 2022. Within this role, he supported initiatives aimed at promoting digital innovation and cultural development.
Before Paul's parliamentary career, he ran his own small business helping charities and patients campaign for greater access to life changing therapies and technologies within the NHS. He also held the role as Chairman of the Linford Christie Trust, where he helped young athletes get the support they needed. Paul works with Brain Tumour Research and UK Sepsis Trust amongst other charities.
Furthermore, Paul has also served as a local councillor providing him with invaluable insights into the intricacies of local governance and community engagement. This grassroots experience honed his ability to connect with his constituents' on a personal level and help address their concerns.
Throughout his tenure as the MP, Paul was an advocate for many local issues in Peterborough. He worked on improving local infrastructure whilst successfully obtaining £48m of funding for the new Station Quarter; supporting small businesses and addressing concerns related to education and public services. His efforts were aimed at enhancing the quality of life for his constituents and ensuring their voice was heard in Parliament.
