Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson attended a Public and Commercial Services Union briefing today and has written to the Mike Penning MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Transport to ask that they extend the public consultation on DVLA closures. By extending the public consultation there would be longer for people in Peterborough to respond in the hope of saving 26 jobs at the Lincoln Road office.
Responses to the DVLA consultation can be made here http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla//consultations/currentconsultations/Response…
Mr Jackson’s action comes in response to contact from a number of constituents who are concerned about the proposed closure in Peterborough.
Stewart Jackson said:
“I'd like to urge people in Peterborough to respond to the DVLA's consultation proposing the closure of the Lincoln Road office. They provide a very valuable service to my constituents and local businesses.
Peterborough is increasingly becoming a centre for logistics, transportation and distribution and as such will put increasing pressure on local DVLA services. Moving this service away from Peterborough goes against the localism agenda of local decisions, services and people.”
