For almost a year now the Great Northern Hotel has been used to accommodate migrants who have crossed the channel on small boats. It has now been announced that it will no longer be used in this way.
Paul Bristow MP had previously campaigned against using The Great Northern Hotel to accommodate the 80 single men. The flagship hotel which is the first thing commuters and visitors see when they come to Peterborough along with the location was not right for the city centre or the men themselves.
The start of the reopening phase will begin early next year, however, the opening date of The Great Northern Hotel has not been confirmed.
The Great Northern Hotel has been open for 150 years and is a staple of the city of Peterborough, Paul Bristow MP's successful campaign means this can continue and the station regeneration plans can begin to take shape.
