Four parks within our City have been awarded with a Green Flag Award, to mark the quality of the park or green space.
The Green Flag Award Scheme recognises and rewards the very best green spaces throughout the UK, and out of this years record breaking 1,686 parks, Peterborough proudly received four awards.
Central Park, Itter Park, Manor Farm Park and Victoria Gardens have been proudly awarded a Green Flag Award in this years Award Scheme.
The first awards were given in 1997 and, many years later, it continues to provide the high level of quality against which our parks and green spaces are measured. It is also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve high environmental standards, setting a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.
Central Park, supported by the Friends of Central Park, boasts play areas, a paddling pool and sporting facilities and leads the way having now received Green Flag status for 14 consecutive years.
Itter Park, also supported by a ‘Friends of’ group, has received the award for the 10 time for offering tennis, an outdoor gym, a putting green, a wildlife pond, a sensory garden and seasonal floral bedding. Manor Farm Park, also known as Eye Open Space, received the award for the fourth time, while Victoria Gardens achieved the status for the third time.
It's an amazing achievement for our City and the hard working people that keep our green spaces in the conditions that they are in.
