Cllr Sabeel Ahmed of Ravensthorpe ward, recently met with Highways Engineer Stuart Tough on Thorpe Park Road, to discuss the possibility of funding a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) with his Community Leadership Fund (CLF), to help reduce speeding along the road.
Each year, councillors across the city are each allocated £3,000 through the Community Leadership Fund to support projects, schemes and activities which will have a positive impact in their local area.
Speeding along Thorpe Park Road is a key problem which Cllr Ahmed and the Conservative Action team are determined to tackle.
Cllr Ahmed said: "Speeding is a key issue which residents often raise with me and they rightfully want to see our roads made safer. I am determined to work with the City Council and police to help tackle this issue and help improve safety of the local community.
"Investing in these new speed signs through my CLF funding, will help to highlight the speed that drivers are travelling at and hopefully slow the traffic down to the actual speed limit, making the road safer for both drivers and pedestrians."
Cllr Ahmed plans to have the sign installed in the next financial year.
