Cllr Alex Rafiq recently had the pleasure of visiting the Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club, and he took a moment to express his gratitude for the incredible work done by Chris and Vicky, the dedicated founders and operators of the club. Despite juggling full-time jobs and family life, Chris and Vicky’s commitment to the club has made a remarkable difference in the lives of many young people in Peterborough.
Cllr Rafiq was full of praise for the club’s positive impact, not just on discipline and fitness, but on instilling a sense of respect and resilience among local youth. "The work Chris and Vicky put into running this club is nothing short of astonishing," said Cllr Rafiq. "This boxing club is a vital asset not only for Paston and Walton but for the entire city of Peterborough. Over the years, it has kept many young people out of trouble and given them the tools they need to succeed, both in and outside the ring."
The boxing club has long been a beacon of hope for young people in the area, offering a safe and supportive environment where they can develop their skills and character. Cllr Rafiq emphasized that initiatives like this are crucial to creating a positive future for the next generation.
During his visit, Cllr Rafiq also addressed the broader community challenges, including the closure of Paston Farm as a community hub. He noted that, despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the closure, he was committed to working with the council and community groups to find alternative solutions to continue vital services, such as the local food bank, which many residents rely on.
Cllr Rafiq concluded, "It’s all about building a strong community, and we need to ensure that local groups and services continue to thrive. Together, we can work through these challenges and ensure that the vital work being done by community organisations, like the boxing club, can continue to benefit local residents for years to come."
